Your First Visit
If this is your first visit to see us, and possibly your first time seeing a chiropractor, then rest assured that we will take the time to get to know you and to understand why you have come.
Here is what happens on your First Visit:
Your First Visit With Us
1. Consultation and Assessment
During your First Visit, we will sit down with you and go through a thorough history of your problem. We also get to know a bit about your life and lifestyle, your work, your habits and routines, and your general health.
Importantly, we like to ask about your goals for coming to see us, whether it’s for pain relief, to address and resolve a long-term issue, or possibly both. As chiropractors, we are keen to understand your personal goals around active lifestyle, general health and optimal wellbeing, because chiropractic can positively impact all of these.
During your First Visit, our chiropractors will take you through a thorough physical examination to assess and diagnose your primary problem. This includes a number of functional tests, but we also look at posture, body alignment, functional patterns, and any secondary or related issues you have that may also need addressing.
In some cases, and with certain problems or injuries, we may need to take x-rays. This can provide clarity and help us to identify any wear and tear or challenges in spinal alignment. When x-rays are needed, your chiropractor can usually take them here in clinic on the same day. Because we have digital x-ray on site, assessing your films is fast and efficient, and this often allows us to commence with your treatment on the first day.
2. Review of Findings
Next, we review everything with you in detail. Your chiropractor will tell you what the problem is and what steps need to be taken to improve and resolve the issue. Pain relief is always an obvious first step, however we also consider the bigger picture of what it will take to resolve your problem completely. During this review, we answer any questions you have, discuss your goals for recovery, agree a plan of action, and confirm you want to commence chiropractic treatment.
3. First Adjustment / Treatment
In most cases, and with most people, we can start chiropractic treatment on your First Visit. In cases where we need more time, we may sometimes decide to commence treatment on your second visit, but this is less common and in most cases we start on day one. During your first chiropractic treatment, we take the time to explain what it is we are doing, how chiropractic works, and how chiropractic adjustments can help your body to change, heal, and recover. During this first adjustment, we encourage our patients to ask questions so they can understand the process and can get the most out of each treatment and visit.
