Headaches and Migraine

After back pain and neck pain, the third most common problem chiropractors see is headache.

Headaches come in many different forms, but the two most common types are tension headache and migraine. Both respond very well to chiropractic, and regular headache sufferers are often amazed at how quickly chiropractic can improve things.

Tension headaches account for up to 80% of headaches, and are usually related to postural issues and/or the build-up of stress and tension within the neck, shoulders, or body in general. Pain is often noted at the base of the skull, top of the head, over one or both eyes, or into the temples. Tension headaches often worsen over time and can become a daily challenge for many people.

Migraines are also very common and have the potential to be severe and debilitating when they occur. Migraines are a neurological phenomenon and often have one or more triggers. The triggers vary from person to person, and we like to use “threshold theory” as a useful way of thinking about how migraines occur and how they can be kept under better control.

Many migraine sufferers also have regular tension headaches, which form a key trigger for their migraines. In such cases, chiropractic can be hugely helpful for these people and can sometimes allow us to prevent their migraines altogether.

Generally speaking, chiropractic may be able to help with most forms of headache. On your First Visit to GB Chiropractic, your chiropractor will work to diagnose your headache, identify its causes and triggers, and will explain how chiropractic treatment may be helpful in improving, preventing, or resolving the issue.

For recurrent headache sufferers the improvement can be immense and many will discover that chiropractic can be a useful way of keeping headaches away or at very least under better control.

Fewer headaches and migraines ultimately means better quality of life and a happier person, so call today or book an appointment to see how we can help.
